We’re excited to share that Apeel avocados have arrived in Kroger, America’s largest grocery retailer! Our partnership with Kroger comes in the same month as the one-year anniversary of Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, Kroger’s ambitious initiative to completely eliminate food waste from their company by 2025.
We’re thrilled to partner with Kroger in the fight against food waste, and with Apeel avocados, together, we can help put a measurable dent in the problem. One of the many reasons we’re so excited about joining with Kroger is because of their food waste initiative. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one-third of the world’s food produced for consumption goes to waste. Every year, Americans throw away more than 400 pounds of food per person, costing a household of four an average of $1,800 [NRDC], and collective retail losses due to food waste amount to more than $18 billion [reFED]. When a piece of produce goes to waste, it’s not just the fruit going into the trash — it’s all of the land, water, energy and labor resources that went into growing it and getting it to your countertop.
