Beyond the many brilliant scientists and technicians we have working in our labs at Apeel, there are also people like Ernest out in the field. Ernest Hearn is a part of our Field Operations team, working as an Operations Engineer. That means he’s involved in integration and installation of our post-harvest equipment and supports our teams in the field at customer sites.
Ernest joined Apeel in 2019. Before joining Apeel, Ernest studied agriculture at UC Davis. Prior to that, he was based in Quito, Ecuador, where he was part of the sales and marketing team at a cut flower plantation and exporting company. In his free time, he enjoys anything soccer related, playing guitar, and spending time with family.
We wanted to hear more from Ernest about what makes his job at Apeel so unique.
Ernest: I’m an Operations Engineer at Apeel. I work with our supplier partners and the awesome teams on the ground installing and operating our equipment. It’s been amazing learning from a bunch of smart, practical, and innovative people.
Ernest: So many things. Definitely family! Also agriculture and making food systems around the world that feed people. On the less serious note, I am passionate about football/soccer. (Celtic FC!)
I am passionate about getting things to work better by creating efficiencies and innovating to make systems work; I guess I'm just passionate about learning — about my job and about things in general.
I feel privileged to work at Apeel where I am able to do all of these things with awesome people in an innovative business environment, all while making big things happen.
Ernest: Easy! The two days that top all the rest in my life: the birth of each of my daughters.
Ernest: This is a hard question to ask in the COVID era! But if it was another time? I’ve always wanted to explore Patagonia.
Ernest: I’m a sucker for working with a team to solve a seemingly intractable problem, and this is what Apeel is all about! In every project I’ve been involved with so far, the teams have shown tremendous resourcefulness and teamwork and a sense of humor. It’s been such a rewarding environment to be a part of.
Thanks Ernest!
